PDF to Word

Convert a PDF into an editable .docx you can open in Word, Google Docs or Pages. Wrapped lines are rejoined into paragraphs, larger lines become headings, and pictures are placed where they sat on the page. Runs entirely on your device.

First run downloads the conversion engine (about 4 MB) once, then it is cached.

Advanced options

What each tool does

Images → PDF turns JPG, PNG, HEIC, WebP and other pictures into one PDF. PDF → Images renders every page as a JPG or PNG. Merge joins PDFs in order, Split extracts pages or ranges, Compress re-encodes the pictures inside a PDF to shrink it, PDF → Text pulls out the text layer, and PDF → Word rebuilds it as an editable .docx with the pictures in place.

Why local processing matters for PDFs

PDFs often contain contracts, bank statements, IDs and medical records. fileio builds and restructures PDFs with a Rust engine compiled to WebAssembly and renders pages with pdf.js, entirely inside your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Will the layout match the PDF exactly?

Text, styling, headings, pictures and page breaks carry over, and the Word page is the same size as the PDF page. Columns, tables and vector artwork such as charts are not rebuilt, so a heavily designed PDF comes across as flowing text and pictures you can edit rather than a pixel-perfect copy.

Does it work on scanned PDFs?

Partly. A scan has no text layer, so the page comes across as a picture inside the Word file: it looks right and you can write around it, but the words themselves are not editable or searchable. Making a scan editable needs OCR, which fileio does not do.

Is my document uploaded?

No. The text is read with pdf.js and the .docx is written by a Rust/WebAssembly engine, both inside your browser. Contracts, statements and CVs never leave your device.
