Compress image

Shrink JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF files while keeping them sharp, or type a KB limit and let the tool hit it. Processed on your device.

First run downloads the conversion engine (about 4 MB) once, then it is cached.

Compression level

Good balance. JPG quality 72; PNG reduced to a 256-colour palette. Usually 50–80 % smaller.

Target size (optional)

With a target, quality is lowered until the file fits; only if that is not enough are the pixel dimensions reduced in small steps.

Advanced options

How image compression works here

JPG and WebP are re-encoded at a lower quality setting, which removes detail the eye rarely notices. PNG is reduced to a palette of 256 (or 64) colours and re-packed with the strongest deflate settings, the same trick TinyPNG uses. GIF stays GIF. All metadata such as EXIF and GPS location is stripped, which alone often saves 20–100 KB.

Set a target size when a form or portal enforces a limit. Quality is lowered first; only when that is not enough are the pixel dimensions reduced in 15 % steps, so the photo stays as sharp as the limit allows.

Which level should I pick?

Recommended suits nearly everything: photos for the web, email attachments, WhatsApp and listings. Low is for archival copies where you want the file smaller but do not want to think about quality. Extreme is for strict upload limits and thumbnails.

Nothing is uploaded

The engine is Rust compiled to WebAssembly and runs inside this browser tab. Files never leave your device, which makes the tools fast and safe for private photos and documents.

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will my image get?

Typically 50–80 % for JPG and PNG at the Recommended level. Photos straight from a phone shrink the most because they carry high quality settings and metadata.

Does compressing reduce quality?

The Recommended level is chosen so the difference is not visible at normal viewing sizes. Low keeps even more detail; Extreme trades visible quality for the smallest file.

Can I compress an image to exactly 100 KB or 50 KB?

Yes. Pick or type the target size. Quality is lowered until the file fits, then, only if needed, the pixel dimensions are reduced in small steps.

Are my images uploaded?

No. The tool runs inside your browser with WebAssembly. Photos never leave your device, so it is safe for IDs, documents and private pictures.

Can I process many images at once?

Yes. Add as many files as you like; they are processed one after another and you can download everything as one ZIP.
